Self care is so vital.  We need to take care of these bodies because they are the vessel in which we dwell.  We must take care of our minds because we only have one.  Most importantly we must take care of our soul.  It is where our love is stored and the more love that can cycle through the more joy we have.

Having a steady routine for your self care makes it almost effortless.  In the beginning, you may need reminders and even charts to keep on track.  Soon the routine will flow and you’ll be happier for it.

Get ready the weather is changing again.  Here in the Southeastern region of the U.S. the weather is quite erratic, warm, cold, rainy, sunny, showing, back to sunny and warm.  By the end of spring we will be able to cruise into the summer. So to prepare for the change our self care routines need to change.

Mani/pedi, After being encased in boots or closed toe shoes and gloves for the last 6 months, it is time to care for our nails again.  It’s time to bring color back into your life.  With a nice hand and foot massage to go with it, my goodness this is heaven especially for us Physical touch and Acts of Service people.  Yes, you guys too!  There is nothing wrong with getting a mani or pedi as a man.  It may turn into a guilty pleasure.

Fresh Air   Let the fresh air in, and open those windows.  There is something about fresh air that just feels good.  You could even put a new blend of oils in your diffuser or light some incense to clear the air.

Go Outside.  It’s time to go outside again.  the days are now getting longer and warmer.  Time to lace up those sneakers and head out into the fresh air.  get in some walking, take up a group sport.  Keep in mind there will still be rainy days, so have a back up plan to get your exercise in.

Hairstyles. I love a fresh hair cut in the spring.  Something new, maybe a little sassy, but definitely fun.  It’s one of those things like removing the winter layers to me.

Hobbies.  Try a new hobby.  hobbies are a great way to indulge in self care.  Hobbies require attention and time.  No matter what type of hobby you choose or if you are crafty creative, musical, mechanical, or athletic, there is a hobby or two for you.  Check out my post 15 Hobbies You’ll Want To Try This Spring! to get ideas.

Houseplants.  I’m a huge fan of houseplants.  Houseplants bring life to the indoors with oxygen and color.   With a few spritzes of water and some sunlight, incorporating a houseplant or two into your daily routine could be pretty easy.  I love a hanging Spider plant, a string of pearls plant, or a Wandering Jew, they really bring life to a home.

Music. Change up your playlists and add some new upbeat music.  There are some new great albums out.  Make a playlist that will move your feet and put a smile on your face.

Spring Cleaning.  After your home has been closed up for the last few months it is time to freshen things up.  I get the itch to clear out my house every spring, and even clean my crusty oven.   I take a week or two in each room to get rid of the things I don’t use or have lost interest in.

I know this is more “Boring Self care”  (posts to come) but some self care isn’t the pampering and the indulgent self care.  Some self care is the mundane self maintenance that we call “adulting” and isn’t so satisfying while doing it.

Having a self care routine really is essential to keeping yourself fulfilled.  By the end of Spring, you would have a routine firmly in place if you start today.  Start small, with a couple things and then as you get those things solidified in a routine, add another.  Don’t overload yourself with a complex routine all at once, but ease into the process.

Give one or two of these suggestions a try.  It could be time for a new music playlist, or hobby.  Freshening your home with a good clean out, a plant or two, and letting the fresh air in will lift the mood.  I’m sure a nice manicure or pedicure with massage will help you feel pampered.  What will you add to your routine this spring?
