Morning Momentum

Get up and get moving!  The best way to start your day is by moving your body.  So move it! Move it!  If you need to grab that coffee first, get it!  I know I do!!

Exercise has been scientifically proven to lift your mood by releasing endorphins and by changing your focus.

I seem to fall away from and then return to this part of my morning routine.  I love to walk, but sometimes the shorter days and longer schedules get in the way.  I live in a rural area, and have back roads that connect into a loop, if you will.  When I walk on a regular basis I complete one of the loops each morning.  I have recently returned to walking again and it does improve the mood.  I also find that it is a great motivator for the rest of the day.

A typical walk would include earbuds, Toby Mac, my water bottle, and since it’s still chilly in the mornings a brightly colored hoodie.  I start off strolling to warm up my muscles then as they loosen up I follow the tempo of the music.  As I walk I’m singing to myself.  I notice the warmth of the sun on my body.  I notice the plants and animals along my path.  Sometimes I have even seen deer grazing in a neighbor’s field.  Being mindful of the moments and enjoying them as I keep time with the music.  I have been known to stop and take pictures of things I see along my way to share or reminisce over.  When I return home, I am ready for whatever the day or my kids throw at me.

I have lived in the city, the suburbs, a small town, and in the country there are wonderful things to take in no matter the landscape.  The point is to enjoy it and to establish gratitude in your mind for the world around you while exercising your body.

I’d love to hear about the lovely things you encounter on your walks.  Please Comment below.  Have a great day!
