Reading is a great way to participate in self care. Books take us on adventures while we never leave our favorite comfy chair. Books teach us new things like knitting or watch making. Books can also teach us how to deal with those hard life lessons.
For the winter months I’d like to offer a list of three books. That is one per month. I know many of us are busy with life and I apply no pressure.
Many times in my life books have offered me an escape from my day to day and quite possibly got me through those times in my life when I needed that far off place to go to imagine things differently. I remember as a young girl, I would climb the biggest tree in the back yard to sit on it’s branches and lean back against its wide trunk to read my newest library find.
I think this stack of books could be just what we need to conquer the new year and possibly change our lives for a very long time if not for good. One book to change how we see our surroundings. One book to improve how we communicate. And one book to change how we handle our lives.
The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up!
This book gets amazing reviews. I am in the process of ridding my house of my past life and finding the joy of being in my home without feeling stressed about the 15 years of accumulated stuff that also lives in my home. Learning how to service an eviction notice to all this stuff will definitely change the atmosphere and mindset in my home. I hope to give this book a try, and quite possibly write a review complete with before and after photos.
Back Cover – Despite constant efforts to declutter your home, do papers still accumulate life snowdrifts and clothes pile up like a tangled mess of noodles? Japanese cleaning consultant Marie Kondo takes tidying to a whole new level, promising that if you properly simplify and organize your home once, you’ll never have to do it again. Most methods advocate a room-by-room or little-by-little approach, which doom you to pick away at your piles of stuff forever. The KonMari Method, with its revolutionary category-by-category system, leads to lasting results. In fact, none of Kondo’s clients have lapsed (and she still has a three month waiting list). With detailed guidance for determining which items in your house “spark joy” (and which don’t), this international bestseller featuring Tokyo’s newest lifestyle phenomenon will help ypi to clear your clutter and enjoy the unique magic of a tidy home – and the calm, motivated mindset it can inspire.
How to Write Short: Word Craft for Fast Times
I have not started this book yet. I have heard great things, about it. The thing that intrigued me the most that lead me to wanting to read this book is while seeking employment, I read an ad for a content creator. One of the job requirements is that the applicant had to have read this book. I think this book will be geared more to the bloggers that read my blog where we all could use a little more polishing. I hope to write a review for this book in brilliant short-form.
Back Cover – In How to Write short, Roy Peter Clark turns his attention to the art of painting a thousand pictures with just a few words. Short forms of writing have always existed – from the ships’ logs and telegrams to prayers and haiku. But in this ever-changing Internet age, short-form writing has become an essential skill. Clark covers how to write effective and powerful titles, headlines, essays, sales pitches, tweets, letters, and even self – descriptions for online dating services. With examples from the long tradition of short-form writing in Western culture, How to Write Short guides writers to crafting brilliant prose, even in 140 characters.
I have already began reading this book. Have you seen the level ten life stuff running around the bullet journal world? This book started it all. Hal Elrod has beat unbelievable odds to be alive today, let alone be a top success coach.
Back Cover – What if you could miraculously wake up tomorrow and any – or every area of your life was transformed? What would be different? Would you be happier? Healthier? More Successful? In better shape? Would you have more energy? Less stress? More money? Significantly better personal and professional relationships? Which of your problems would be solved? What if I told you that there is a “not-so-obvious” secret that is guaranteed to transform any – or literally every area of your life, faster that you ever thought possible? What if I told you it would only take 6 minutes a day? Enter The Miracle Morning. What’s now being practiced by thousands of people around the world could perhaps be the simplest approach to creating the life you’ve always wanted. It’s been right there in front of us, but this book has finally brought it to life. Are you ready? The next chapter of your life – the most extraordinary life you’ve ever imagined – is about to begin.
These three books in my thinking offer a wealth of knowledge that have potential to change our lives for the better.
I am excited to embark on this journey of knowledge with you, that may just change the way we think, write, and behave. I hope that you would partake in this journey with me so that we may all grow together.
Until next time,
