After much thought, deliberation, and prayer, I have come to find my word for the new year… Release

I aim to release all that is holding me back from becoming my best self and living my best life.  I release all the garbage I should have thrown away a long time ago.  I release all the clutter in my life, all the toxicity, all my assumptions, my expectations, all the resentment, the bitterness, and mostly I release love out into the world.

I have grown so much and have hit a place where I need to make a conscious effort to release more of what is holding me back.  I need to release myself from the bondage of rules that I set upon myself and the walls that I have set around myself.

I promise I won’t get too wild and crazy, but i may do somethings that would seem crazy to me.  I have this feeling that this year will be the year that flips my life right side up.

I absolutely love having a word for the year.  One year I had a phrase… not even a ladylike phrase at that.  That year was powerful for me,  it changed my life.  That was the year after many failed attempts and 20 years, I quit smoking for good.   I had tubal reversal surgery and then conceived my littlest child.  More than that, it was a year I took complete control over my actions to make my dreams come true.

Even in the midst of a marriage that was falling apart around me, I was happy because I took my power back even for that short time.  I spent my energy on building myself up instead of allowing my circumstances to guide my year.  I wish now that I had done that every year, but that didn’t happen.

Instead I can choose every year from here on out to make each year better than the last by stepping up my game, setting my goals and crushing them.  This year will be a great year of healing and transformation for me, and I hope for others who need it.

Why do you need a word?  This word, or phrase gives you focus for the year.  A word that permeates throughout your choices for the year.  A word that helps you to have faith.  A word that sets you free.  A word that challenges you.  A word that will become your mindset.  A word that can relate and carry you through every situation of the coming year.

Lets say your word is Momentum, that means that this year is the year you focus on moving forward, gaining speed as you go, having a strategic plan for accomplishing your goals, and snowballing through them.

In 2012 I had a phrase year.  It is the year I described above with the unladylike phrase (here is your warning).  I had been waiting for 8 years for my husband to be on board 100% to allow me to follow my dreams, as I had been helping him build his for the last 17 years.  So my phrase was “F.U., I’m doing it for Me.”  I made my goals, my plan, and slammed through all of it.

In January I quit smoking for good after 17 years using Allen Carr’s Easy Way Method to Stop Smoking and cough drops.  I lost 20 pounds by July. I had saved the funds I needed for my tubal ligation reversal surgery by the end of August.  I underwent my surgery October 1st.  I came off my anti-depressants the night after my surgery.   I still showed support to my husband’s wishes and dreams for travel by meeting him for my first trip to Florida where I met some great people, ten days out of surgery.  I didn’t know it then, but I was pregnant by Christmas.  I made my goals, crushed them, and finished well.  My phrase for the year was something that kept me focused on what I wanted to accomplish.

side note * if you feel you have to have a phrase like this due to your partner not encouraging you to seek out your dreams while you are helping build theirs, it is time to re-evaluate your boundaries and or relationship altogether.

Maybe, this isn’t your thing, but why not give it a try.  Make a decision and choose a word or phrase.  Write it on an index card and put it up somewhere that you will see it daily.  Put it on your bathroom mirror, your car’s sun visor, your bullet journal.  Where ever you will see it.  Look at it everyday.  It may take some time to decide on one.  When you choose your word or phrase, you will know that it’s yours and it applies to this next year of your life.

Until next time!
